Sadly, it’s all opt-out if they even let you. Really getting tired of forced AI content on the web 🙁
It’s not really the browser, it’s on Google’s search results. Bing has similar issues. When I typed in Beetlejuice just now on Bing, one of the suggested search results called it an “American Actor” instead of a film. Ugh. To be fair, him popping up in other films would be a riot.
I smelled and saw a lot of smoke so it was probably controlled burns. Air quality has greatly improved now and I’m no longer having lung spasms so that’s good. 🙂
I think part of it is that people are beginning to realize how far AI has to go. I have a lot of issues with it myself. Since Google added AI summaries to the search results page, I’ve been having more issues finding what I need. I find that the summaries are worded in strange ways that I find difficult to understand, or even inaccurate, and find it much easier to just find a link to an original article. Their old knowledge graph was much more useful to me. I even have to ask my smart speaker a question five different ways before it can understand what I mean.
In some eras, leeches were available at your local pharmacy. In fact, it looks like they’re using leech chemicals in actual medication. We’ve come a long way from bloodletting 😛
Bad air pollution down here for the last week or so. As a result, my lungs have been spasming a bit. It’s been worse outside. 🙁
Ugh. Have you tested just the Kogan? I see you tested the Philips on its own
Somewhat related but I still haven’t flipped the setting for HDR in my monitor’s setting menu (not the Windows one but the one built in to the monitor). Honestly not sure if I’ll ever get around to it
NMS update just landed! It looks incredible!
Yep, we get those too! Most of them are shown on the Hallmark Channel. The ones on streaming are a bit…worse 😛
Finished up Fallout yesterday. It was pretty fun at the end but still left me wanting for more. They did a good job of showing more of the varying vault personalities and the strife between factions. Fortunately, we’re getting another season at some point 🙂
Yeah, Windows is hit or miss with regards to obeying the driver update settings. Though, the policy setting is almost always obeyed. It’d be less annoying if WU would actually update intelligently instead of “updating” a user installed driver to an older version in the WU Update Catalogue 😛
On Linux, you can downgrade any package (kernel, drivers, and more) as long as a previous version is available. It doesn’t even need to be in the repo or the cache. Linux allows you to install packages from RPMs, DEBs, etc that you download yourself and register it to the package manager. Not always recommended as it can cause conflicts but you can still do it. For the occasions where you want to override the version requirements, some package managers have an option to force the install. The downgrade feature is quite handy. I’ve used it on Fedora fifteen years ago when an update to the HAL package kept breaking my keyboard. The bug was fixed in a distro update so it was probably an ABI change as the version number was still the same.
Good to know that nothing is seriously broken 🙂
I still haven’t played Eternal Darkness. It really needs to be released again 🙁
Hogwarts Legacy is getting a huge update on January 30th that also includes modding tools. Why they mostly do annual updates is beyond me but at least we’re getting continual support!
The only one I’ve really avoided is On Her Majesty’s Secret Service. Not sure why I keep skipping it but I should really watch it at some point. For Your Eyes Only was pretty fun. It has the best anti-theft system you’ll find:
And let’s not forget the legendary Andre!
Ooh, good cast. Not available in the US, sadly, but will keep an eye out for it. It’s bound to make it here eventually!
The last time I used AI Suite, it was pretty slow. Granted, this was about a decade ago or so. Fortunately, Microsoft is working on a package manager for Windows so that should help streamline everything. The unified interface for managing everything else, though, is definitely a good idea. In that regard, Windows really lags behind Linux.
On the note of drivers, an “optional” video driver update appeared in Windows Update the other day so I should probably do it the proper way before WU breaks things again by force installing 😛
About to finish Service Model. It’s a hilarious take on the robot apocalypse with tons of pop culture references. Highly recommended! My biggest issue is that I can read a book in a day or two so it’s hard for me to keep up with finding new stuff. Kobo’s algorithm has started breaking down and giving me the same stuff, most of which isn’t available from the library or I’ve already read. Going to need to come up with a better way to find reading material
Yeah. Some of them take a few days to display damage, most are immediate. Fortunately, it looks like the only ones that got hit are the ones that’ll come back in a few months. 🙂
Interesting idea. It can get complicated if there are conflicting concerns, though. For instance, you have a group of five deer and a group of five coyotes. The coyotes are going after the deer. Do you let the coyotes eat or do you save the deer?
Looks like Lorcana has some potentially huge changes coming in a couple of weeks: https://lorcanaplayer.com/dual-ink-cards-changed-set-champs-prizing/
Will be talking to our organizers today. Can say that the new dual ink cars will cause a huge stir. How much of one depends on the effects of the new cards but it’ll be huge down the road. And I just retooled my deck yesterday 😛
Yeah, will try that soon. Just tried capping the frame rate in Adrenaline and it didn’t exactly go well. It caused a lot of lag, visual anomalies, and the game still crashed so I reset the setting back to the defaults. I may have to try switching the monitor’s refresh rate at some point. Assuming I don’t just give up and grab Fallout 4 first 🙁
Sad to see that a lot of those have simply been taken over by other larger outfits and redirected to their homepages. Sometimes, the new outfit is in a completely different market. For instance, xoom now redirects to PayPal’s payment service. I posted about this years ago on the former site and in a few of the IRC channels I frequented, but Archive.org saved much of GeoCities before it went dark: https://blog.archive.org/2009/08/25/geocities-preserved/
Good lists! Fun fact, you can still explore Reddit in the old style and Craiglist hasn’t changed very much since then 🙂
And, for those interested, Steam currently has the complete Wild Hunt edition for 10 USD. It’s tempting. Granted, I haven’t really played The Witcher games much. The first one felt strange in the animation department and the second felt weird on a keyboard and mouse.
I also found out that Beam.ng Drive has a learning mode on the ETK Testing map. 🙂
Read Dark Matter a couple of months ago. 🙂 It was pretty fun and I liked the bit in the chatroom that was essentially a callback to Bender’s Big Score when an infinite number of them start popping up before he kills the chatroom.
Also read Recursion a while back. Not his best book, honestly. Great characters and interaction but the premise didn’t make much sense. How they get to time travel from simple brain mapping was preposterous and never adequately explained.
Could be! The weather reports are kind of hard to read sometimes. For example: the low for a day is actually the lowest temperature it’ll be the next morning around 0500. Makes no sense! 😛
Have had everything covered since Monday and brought the potted plants inside. They’re probably missing the sunlight but it’s better than getting frozen. 🙂
I definitely agree with the responses over there: if the result doesn’t matter, just have fun with it! Personally, I would have just used the Kings to dance around the board instead of simply moving them back and forth. 😛
Got colder this morning than it was supposed to. It was only supposed to be 28 but wound up being 25. No matter, I do like the cold. 🙂
Here’s an interesting idea: in theory, a darker sheet should decrease the risk of freeze damage more than a lighter colored one as it’ll absorb more photonic energy. Definitely worth testing at some point.
The test would be pretty simple: get a collection of very sensitive plants and split them into three groups: a control and one each for the different sheets. Then we’d wait until Winter when it’s cold and below the minimum temperature. Next, we leave the control out without a sheet just to many sure they are indeed temperature sensitive and cover the other two groups with their sheets. We simply check them in a few days to see which ones have more damage. And to make sure we killed the control group
May have been a renewal hiccup. Now all of the subdomains are showing up as they should in the certificate information with the next renewal set for April. I know in the Linode, it would sometimes take a day or so for the renewal to complete. Never did figure out why. It occurred even when I would run the command manually
In any case, it’s good to be back. 🙂
We’ll plan to repeat the maneuver in three months 😛
Didn’t even notice that omission. It’s been a while since I’ve seen it. It’s too bad hovercraft never took off, they were quite useful. The issue with wind was probably too big of a problem for them to have good staying power, though. Lakes and such get a lot of wind!
Just went on a Wiki journey and found out the DC did a Superboy TV show that I never heard about. Interestingly, it had quite a few Bond actors involved. Some of them aren’t listed on the main Wiki page, though, such as Richard Kiel. Totally different genre, too.
Yeah, the services over here have been trying to get me to watch it as well. I’ve got Cannonball Run on the list now. Watching Bond has me in the mood for Moore’s parody version 😛
So that’s what it’s called! Here’s a bit of a list of credits for what the piece is used in: https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0006309/ It’s used a lot!
Will see if I can catch them over here!
Still making my way through the Bond films. Hit the Roger Moore era the other day. It’s quite different from the Connery era but I like it for its cheesiness. The critics didn’t like it so much but they’re looking at quality, I’m not. I’m looking at fun value 😛
Read Blake Crouch’s Run the other day. It was a brutal book and only recommended if you’re in the mood for something that gets the heart pounding. It’s really heavy.
Working on prepping for the upcoming cold blast. Weather report is not consistent with precipitation. The weekly forecast says 20% but the hourly says 80% so it’s pretty confusing. Need to make sure I round up all my blankets and heaters and then I also need to get the plants covered up. Originally wasn’t going to worry about it but the forecasted temps aren’t looking as good as they were the other day. Only 27F for two days but the precipitation is what has me worried.
That was around 2016 or so? Something like that. Unfortunately, I no longer have the space for several screens 🙁 The fix was to move the HUD to the center monitor and adjust the FOV in the INI file. The issue was a sluggish UI that went away when only a single monitor was used. After making those adjustments, the game worked pretty normally. 🙂
I think the LAA flag needs to be used like Skyrim with a wrapper but I haven’t looked into it yet. Will get there, though! Just been a tad slow lately 🙂
Cool! Didn’t even realize that Angelfire was owned by them. They used to be abundantly but you don’t see may Angelfire sites anymore. Social media has mostly devoured the web 🙁
You can also disable the generation of that file entirely! Just note that the policy editor doesn’t come with the basic versions of Windows. Wish it did as I use it to disable some of the other Windows annoyances.
