Yes – like this one, “To Pan”, from “Hesiod, the Homeric Hymns and Homerica, 1920”:

Only at evening, as he returns from the chase, he sounds his note, playing sweet and low on his pipes of reed: not even she could excel him in melody — that bird who in flower-laden spring pouring forth her lament utters honey-voiced song amid the leaves. At that hour the clear-voiced nymphs are with him and move with nimble feet, singing by some spring of dark water, while Echo wails about the mountain-top, and the god on this side or on that of the choirs, or at times sidling into the midst, plies it nimbly with his feet. On his back he wears a spotted lynx-pelt, and he delights in high-pitched songs in a soft meadow where crocuses and sweet-smelling hyacinths bloom at random in the grass.

There was another heatwave in Victoria, we were spared this time. After the last rain, there was a dry windy change, so after a few warm days had to soak the pots again! ๐Ÿ™
Cool! The up and down keys got some movement in Doom, what gets the character in motion – the space/enter, or something else?
Jaffa the young Jack Russell, taken with the goat’s enthusiasm for carrots, has himself acquired the taste. Tonight he completely demolished a rather large and juicy carrot!

Date A Live banned in China? Did they even get to see any of the trailers? This one is for Ren Dystopia:

They have all fallen prey to the Ken Burns effect! Series 6 will be the last? Funny, the following trailer for series 4 is not available in the US and Japan, China is okay though. ๐Ÿ˜›

Now streaming Sherlock & Daughter, an American production gone very Britsh with a top notch cast on a rather spiffing adventure line. Did notice some odd pronunciations such as zeenith for zentih, debew for debut and insulate for insolent. Recommended all the same!
A Matter of Life and Death (or Stairway to Heaven) is a jolly bit of good-hearted sci-fi fluff with extra zing in the production and direction. The highlight for me was the Sofaer’s recitation of Scott’s short poem here:

In The Silent Partner there’s an interesting twist on gaslighting post bank heist. More of historical interest now, as banks, as we knew them then, are becoming less and less. Recommended!
You’ll never see much light from the sun in The Doll Factory until (spoiler alert) the closing scenes. The music is dark and persistent, the episodes all playing to a rather gloomy horror motif. Despite the efforts from the cast, things fell away towards the end, expected an ending that could have plugged a few more holes contextually perhaps.

The keyboard lights with OpenRGB is a known issue with XBOX MSC, so we can writhe alive to the tune of that. ๐Ÿ™‚
Thanks! The Windows idea of the HID LampArray standard came early 2024 – must have either tried it either without success or missed it altogether. Good news it works with the G213 keyboard as well as with MSC, thus the ball is in the court of OpenRGB for further innovations. ๐Ÿ™‚

That last link takes all of 30 seconds to load over here – it’s huge!
There’s MFC in there which adds extra layers. With stdafx it boils down to saving time and grunt with pre-compiled headers using either that or pch.h?

Definitely getting a welcoming Linux vibe, the main drawback as a Microsoft Solitaire Collection junkie, how so for this little red rooster to go cold turkey?
Is there light at the end of the tunnel even after Microsoft Solitaire Turns Off Keyboard Lights, a new feature which could even be related to another thing.
A High Performance power plan has always been set in Process Lasso while Solitaire runs, else tournament time is incorrectly evaluated. Again, after the last MS update, the power plan will not reset to the previous plan as it did before. Pretty sure it’s not an issue with Process Lasso, but might post over there later given a positive response from MS to above.

The border protection folks have done a pretty good job of keeping citrus greening out of the country, so don’t think it was the cause as there was no discolouration in the last fine crop of oranges. Can never be absolutely sure though. ๐Ÿ™
Beauty berries are … beautiful, and our feral deer would certainly go party on them. Unusual as a deciduous subtropical – haven’t seen any in nearby nurseries to date.

There is a will and intention one day of getting close and personal with Big Spotty, in the meantime the urgency is to attend the so-named “Old Grump” tereticornis down by the dam as he/she has not had the best from our current weather behaviours. Not even half the height of Spotty, closer to half the girth perhaps.

The brass “nozzle” sprayer on this garden hose gets very sticky to turn in adjusting for fine spray, tried various greasy/oily lubricants, even Tri-Flow with hardly any improvement in the twist. Windows has been pretty good overall, the major updates keep most of the user settings from the previous now, however there were some oddities introduced:

Some of those issues in the OP are due to the Service Host (svchost.exe) chowing through the hosts file at Windows logon. It runs after hibernate resume as well, did post a query to MS for confirmation, both post and answer has since vanished. Ran it around to the Bitsum Gurus, no answer usually means, or implies insufficient information.
Well, this CPU figure of 8.38% looks more to be throttled by the restraint of I/O operations (e.g. searching through RAM blocks and writing data back to RAM according to types and encoding etc.) than just plain cpu cycles. The issue is, the CPU is supposed to be going flat chat in a critical thread, yet you could play Skyrim or such (offline) concurrently, where game performance isn’t optimal, but fine nonetheless. It’s all down to the CPU architecture and grade of DDR RAM, and the Windows handling of them, an intricate and complex rabbit hole indeedy deed!
Did you ever receive any feedback from Microsoft regarding the fans on the s76? It’s common knowledge that Windows performs many BIOS updates silently, which could mean certain settings get overwritten unfortunately. ๐Ÿ™

That’s a rollicking good old fashioned icing set, and oh, a picture is just what’s required to titillate the tastebuds for sure!

Obtained a packet of donut peaches or Ondines, being a popular store brand over here. Not quite as tasty a regular peaches, a good grower for a harsher climate, so an Angel/donut peach tree is on the list for autumn.
If trying your hand in the making of sourdough bread, apparently a SCOBY culture is required. There’s a fair bit of preparation in this Hibiscus kombucha cake with SCOBY already in the kombucha. Just ensure the flowers aren’t from either Hibiscus rosa-sinensis or Rose of Sharon. ๐Ÿ˜›
It’s awful when things leak. Up here over winter, knock up much of the chicken and fish preparations in covered casserole dishes to go in the stove. No matter what, there is leakage during the cooking which ensures a hard carbonised crust on the dish for a big clean up later. Have never found one which doesn’t. Foil and the like might reduce it some, more waste going in the skip though.
Also looking for a roasting dish for our handy little oven, the stores here mostly focus on plugin ones, some of which look quite nice. They all possess the plastic electrical contacts and whatnot that would unfortunately make a very nasty mess in the oven if we are not careful.

Wow, the ellipsograph describes a beautiful geometric move however, and there was a couplet from Ovid that begged inclusion!
As a matter of interest regarding St. Francis and the following extract from this article:

On 24 December 1223, he organised a midnight mass that included a re-enactment of the event, with villagers playing the parts of Mary and Joseph and a rag doll as baby Jesus. St Francis even brought along an ox and a donkey to complete the image of Jesus being born in a barn. The aim was to educate and inspire the villagers of Greccio about the celebration of Christmas โ€“ not just as a historical event, but as something real they could imagine and believe in.

There’s some debate as to the actual circumstance of birth, many think it was a house, most likely a well tenanted one.

No matter, all that’s required now is for some PHP to read a file and display it into a meter box in the html somewhere. Easy enough?

Funny they are not wont to provide a list of “safe” hit counter sites, or even provide a safe hit counter themselves for sandbox purposes, which can be optionally blocked by their own software. A couple of bucks for each use could even go towards the upkeep of their own site. They also block Google Analytics by default apparently.
On the other hand, plugins like ZDN Adblock Detector are overkill, all that’s required here is a script that adds a number to the counter when an ad-blocker is detected. When it comes to other visitors like bots and crawlers, perhaps a project for Cleantalk, a counter on the page for all guests, welcome and otherwise. ๐Ÿ™‚
