Once used a trackball back in the nineties, do remember that, like the touchpad it required absolutely not one speck of grease or sweat in the works or it was back to cleaning. Did like it for a while before it started to wear out, as did the touchpad, with the consequence of losing precision in movement. Which was enough to want to move back to standard gear. π
Scans anything? What about huntsman spiders, which are common visitors to homes in this neighbourhood. Beautiful spiders worthy of a replica.

If the library system software was open source, it would probably be updated regularly. else there’s always a cost in maintaining proprietary code.The Mythbusters are fantastic in everything they say and do, which of course becomes tedious if one hearkens to content which isn’t so fantastic. Like me, and maybe others, she is not a fan of tastic in excess. π
“They Saved Hitler’s Brain.” Really? Must watch it, along with the one about Santa Claus and the Martians. Do they turn into elves at the end?
Have you seen The Golden Compass? No problems with motifs, acting or cinematography, just a very awkward transposition of the stunning ideas from the book to screen, in contrast cf. the Peter Jackson trilogy. Amidst the background of a predictable outcome, the scene transitions jerk around and through the plot development, and despite the cast, most exchanges of dialogue come off as rather wooden.
It was an exercise in the management of self-torture to view the entire one hour fifty minutes of Nekrotronic on FTA. And, spoiler alert for any seeking palliative relief: this film will not cure headaches! πDo switch hands with the mouse which seems to relieve onset RSI, even with these so-called and new-fangled ergonomic verminous breeds. π
Have any brickplication ideas?
“Fit as a Baker’s Dog” was a book by Sean Lock made just for 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown, but it was never published!
Cool! Do you receive Boing Boing’s Newsletter? Would be nice if they had archived versions of it just in case new subscribers missed anything – and – should one worry too much re Mailchimp?
What about governments of the world getting together with the manufacture and distribution of Hogwarts brooms and mounts to aid in the cleanup of the world’s refuse? Has the potential at least of a fun idea, given the right marketing approach, even if mfg promises on equipment functionality turn out in practice to be completely sham. πOn the rainy day watchlist, a handy thing to have in case of the regular watchlist going all sparse of a sudden, unlikely right now as the favourite FTA channel is offering plenty of “new” content. Like this one, Don’t Look Now with Donald Sutherland. The stories by Daphne Du Maurier were very trendy back in the day, this one even gets a mention with the “Daphne Du Maurier midget” in Absolutely Fabulous mentioned in this fine article.
Getting 0% on Rotten Tomatoes is reserved only for a select few of movies, including the FTA re-occurrence last night of Death Wish V: The Face of Death. The agonisingly loud and gruesome ends of the villains not being enough to sway the critics, the director who “attempted to insert humor and black comedy elements” gets another gong as there were none to be had.
The Nutcracker in 3D might provide visuals to the CD, with a bonus one in a million chance that at least one of the scenes in the movie will synchronise with the appropriate subject matter on the CD. And the additional bonus prize of identifying at least one redeeming feature of the movie to lift it off 0%. Good luck with that! πGood to know, the study itself is some years back, yet the 18/12/2023 youtube video has clocked up millions in the first day or so. Wow.
Do appreciate his use of Shutterstock for the image, most bloggers tend to avoid printing the attribution, as to some readers, it may come off as detracting from the message of the article. From the bloggers perspective, (including mine), those readers turn out to be nothing more than a bunch of wankers! π
Looks like there are plenty of mods out for the Steam version, seems the teething problems for the PC have been dealt with some. πRootsweb is going down the gurgler, Ancestry is just too big, for no more reason than having gobbled up RW and others. It does a have a good search, mind you, the best bits therewith unlocked after coins have been inserted in the slot. π
Missed that one, so a few good laughs in it is worth a watch. π
Licence to Kill starts off by kicking the rather worn looking plot down the road with gusto, and makes like a standard C grade action film for the first 30 minutes at least. Does improve a bit, and some of the stunts are fabulous:
Although PG might be hiding a shiver or three, methinks the feet are well covered. π
Watched Valérian et la Cité des mille planètes (excuse the French) the other night.
Should we ever mention that word “uneven”, some spectacular visuals, the basic plot line worked, but wanted beefing up, ditto for the leads, enjoyable enough not to turn it off half way through, as one might in the case of something really spectacular showing on the other FTA channels. These days, not a chance. π
The demise and crash of the large alien spacecraft – which precipitated the events of the movie – was done in a rather hurried fashion, so we’ll never know who the aliens were, the name/description of the ship, or how it could have destroyed an entire planet the way it did. Oh well.Anyway, back to comics, the movie was of course inspired by the well known and long running ValΓ©rian and Laureline sci-fi series from the sixties. So well known in fact, never got to read it. π
An obit for the artist is at downthetubes, and did you know any of the ten things Star Wars “borrowed” from the comic? The Peter Cushing likeness is – well – rather close. πFunny thing about this, we say nothing if things are fine, and become very loud if they are not.
Yep, video drivers updates used to be weird, MS preferred to handle them “automatically”, the video driver folk were always wont to find something to complain about WU, and in many cases, justifiably so. Things have settled somewhat since then. πTried a LiteSpeed modification, the above would work for a local setup, as corrected at BBPress.
Who wouldn’t climb many a mountain to see Benny Hill? There are plenty of memories of the show, this compilation came up first in Google.
The Phantom was on FTA tonight, it somehow doesn’t warrant a second viewing, notwithstanding it’s been that long, and the movie flunks out in a rather fun way.
On Portlandia, there’s a diagnosis of Early Onset Grumpiness:
Oh, and plugs and things for Outlets, bring them on, plug them in and let them out, as long as they aren’t too short!
Put a bird on the rest of ’em:
The larger crabs can double as mummies for extra effect – to be captured in action for a feature rich youtube video, no less! π
Do you journey east or west for the best beaches?
Yay, Codeproject feed has returned, heralded by a marvellous gripe about Stupid Editor Lines & Symbols courtesy MS no less. ππ Yep, the EM waves make for a dial-up moondem on eternal handshake!
The Broodx are getting through to the DAS in the fibre-optic cables! Let’s check with them:
Well tonight the bubble on the forums landing page was at least a minute slower than the one in this forum topic. Hmmm, don’t think there was this particular problem with Cache Enabler, assuming the memory is reliable.
Can say with certainty there were no issues before any caching plugins bubbled up. πThe “read” bubble immediately dissipating within the forum thread after reading, but not in the main or root forums page points to an indication that at least something in there is off. π
Happening very often since the move to TPP, there is a tip here which offers a code fix for the theme’s function.php:
add_filter( ‘bbp_verify_nonce_request_url’, ‘my_bbp_verify_nonce_request_url’, 999, 1 );
function my_bbp_verify_nonce_request_url( $requested_url )
{
return ‘http://localhost:8888’ . $_SERVER[‘REQUEST_URI’];
}Might be worth investigating. π
Not off the top, there’s a list of movie candidates at this forum, and here’s a bonus horror gag, try and coax ChatGPT et al to come up with a close match!
At present streaming Vienna Blood, had the impression it was released earlier than it was, very watchable, nothing in it (especially the wishy-washy, yet all too soapy sponging of the protagonists’ internal dramatics) to bowl the critics over, unfortunately.
Although La Brea got a good panning, there’s something about the threat/soap/hardcore aspect of the delivery that makes for good background noise. The application of “sc-fi” to the genre of the show won’t stick anywhere, except down the tube. π
Oh, and watched Zombieland through dinner tonight, thus not enjoying it quite as much as one should. π
Oh, and on FTA there was I Know What You Did Last Summer, engineered specifically and obviously for a setting up a franchise, so a bit formulaic. It so much wanted to be different than previous Slashers, too, so the plot suffers a little – yet holds a nice brew of shocks and surprises that are not conducive to excess froth at the mo’.Speaking of farts, one came up on the FTA news show regarding John Kerry at Dubai on Sunday:
The good articles are most likely behind a paywall, which means signing up to a subscription somewhere. Happy enough over here to pick up a mag in the newsagents and follow up on Google regarding anything that lights up. There’s always something somewhere for an enquiring mind.
As it so happens in such times as these (and with the silly season approaching), nothing feedwise has emerged from the usual sources like CodeProject, and the Youtube notifications have dried up as well. ππ Considering the density of the atmosphere, it’s amazing one can hear anything at all! They also have the sound of a meteoroid striking the planet’s surface and breaking up, … to this ear not quite as expected – wonder how big it was?
