[Moved from Software …]
Got a WHEA uncorrectable bugcheck – looks like it points to theStandard NVM Express Controllerof the newish (PCI connected) SSD. After booting the event log showed this:A fatal hardware error has occurred.
Component: PCI Express Endpoint
Error Source: Advanced Error Reporting (PCI Express)Primary Bus:Device:Function: 0x1:0x0:0x0
Secondary Bus:Device:Function: 0x0:0x0:0x0
Primary Device Name:PCI\VEN_1987&DEV_5019&SUBSYS_50191987&REV_01
Secondary Device Name:Might also be related to the recent Intel firmware upgrade, so we’ll just have to sit back to see how this evolves. 🙂
Edit: With all this blah-hoo regarding specifications, all you get from Windows is some error occurred. When these devices report an error, it usually filters through as just an “error”. Sure, the more error checking there is, the slower the system is, and the more wear on the H/W, can we at least get a little more breakdown i.e. parity (R/W), CRC (dust & heat) or a tiny hint of any SMART errors?
Apparently a SMART test is run each boot, no problems so far – at least as far as the percent reliability of SMART permits it. 😛From the way it was worded one can imagine the new chargers magically detect whether the device is “compatible” or not and charge accordingly. No? Oh well, just another one for the disappointments rack.
Can always select one word and copy/paste it, the code doesn’t present a way of selecting a group of words (at least with finger swiping), unless there is a trick.
The battery drain on this one is still significant when used more frequently. Is it possible the new chargers that claim fast charging with compatible devices can wreck the batteries on very old phones?
The old tablet had the power button just around to the right of the micro USB outlet, which made disconnecting with the left hand and powering off with the right quick and easy, the A8 has the power on switch on the left and at the other end, really good for two left hands.
Still searching for a way to select, copy and paste text from these forums, at the moment it all makes like an impervious WOT. :pWhat’s an ambient car?
How annoying, maybe scanreg.exe or another reg cleaner?Done with regedit, try this:
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/removing-invalid-entries-in-the-add-remove-programs-tool-0dae27c1-0b06-2559-311b-635cd532a6d5
Some of the programs in subscription have of late developed a tendency to want their users to click buttons rather than use the pull-down menus. Even if you end up using just the buttons, they won’t provide an option to hide the menus for whatever reason. On the other hand, clearing the clutter of useless buttons, gets a nice ribbon of wasted space – as mentioned here:
https://forum.emclient.com/t/repositioned-search-box
https://forums.getpaint.net/topic/127184-top-ribbon-whitespace-hide-common-actions-buttons
it’s fair to say that from the programmers’ perspective, these issues aren’t as easy as they first appear. 🙁
Edit: The HP did nag for a BIOS upgrade related restart a few weeks back, and after declining on 3 or 4 occasions, it then rebooted without prompting for saved files in N++. This time, it again prompted for a BIOS update, which went without a hitch – and without rebooting. Cool, … if there is a black screen or BSOD next restart, we’ll have a good indication as to the cause. 😛If there ever will be a fine satirical magazine like MAD on the stands again, yep, worth a thread. Still searching for humour, there are some stalwarts in isubscribe. Websites anyone? ComicsUK definitely worth a lookover, love the funny folks:

Seriously considering American Bystander, more my cuppa, 8 mags at $20 each cost a fair bit more than MAD reruns, with possible extra cartage for international customers.
Another funny thing happened today, purchased a 4L container of fish emulsion fertilizer which fell ever in the back of the ute during transit. Only a small quantity leaked out, unfortunately enough to soak the side of a fine hessian bag and some toilet mats. Despite the rubber tonneau, there’s bound to be a fishy odour around there for a while. 🙁All the way back from ’97, and now only three comments. There was Backyard Skateboarding in 2005 apparently, – and what’s Dr. Octogonapus got to do with it? 😛
Have you noticed that Explorer windows active in W11 shutdown are not restored after boot?Restore Previous folder windows at log-onis broken. Someone somewhere suggested PowerToys offer a solution, couldn’t find a reference in the docs other than WorkSpaces. Not a bad idea though, other than that, there’s an old AHK script on Reddit where it should be simple enough to configure. 🙂
Edit: Whoah, another one bites the dust. The mighty CodeProject has finally succumbed to the vicissitudes of time and costs. Don’t understand the bit about bandits though – are they supposed to be anything like the programmer bandits described in The Psychological Reasons for Software Project Failures?Do recall Ad Astra on FTA here some years back- it’s bound to make a re-appearance sometime.
Really that bad? Most of the FTA streaming sections boast a comprehensive line-up of goodies, old and new, it’s the migration over to Fetch that has uncovered bugs that make streaming more screaming than ever before. A lot of it appears to be on the Fetch side, which seems to indicate they are in thrall of the big commercial streaming companies.
Doesn’t harm to check the DVDs in the hand-me-down stores from time to time, last month someone here donated seasons 1-9 of Futurama!
Rocket fuel came up recently in Random, how about the spice they use in Dune? The film runs at a steady, regal pace, weaving in much detail from the novel into the panoramic and immersive experience. One of the critics said she didn’t appreciate the jokes. Huh? Nothing in there was LOL, in fact not even a grin emerged for this countenance, as methinks it was not the purpose of the direction. Never got the feeling MENA actors were absent either, a thing more attributed to individual interpretation and understanding of casting and characterization. A thing most viewers wouldn’t feel the urge to worry about too much after watching a film like Dune. 🙂Another one with a good soundtrack bursting with Bacharach numbers like Girls Know How. 🙂
There is a lot of tension in Hereditary where things get a little bezonkers, especially Toni Collette, which explains the downvotes from the “average cinema-goer” according to CinemaScore. Well put together movie, recommended if really good old horror sugar hits are in short supply. 🙂Despite “The North Wind and the Sun” still being used in phonetic sampling there were some who preferred to cry wolf. As it so happens, the wolf is in AI clothing now, because telling the difference between human and AI voice samples requires more of a better set of ears than before. Something the likes of Presbycusis have no answer for. 🙁
Belkin make really good stuff, so will keep an eye out. Have to replace an aging 6 outlet power board and – er – a few more around as well. 😛
The Back-UPS seems to be working after the battery change, although the same thing still happened with the HP, until the realization the UPS settings are per computer, and not stored on the unit. Awaiting confirmation for that. 🙂
Something happened to the post dates on that site when it migrated back in ’21, some of my older posts were redated to that date like these ones from around 2017 now all having the same date of 2021-06-28 06:40 AM. 😛
Could it be “AI” behind it – time then to hit the Wikipedia comment pages. 🙂Even the idea of persuading folks to setup, operate, and champion such clinics is itself enough to warrant such an argument. Design hint: all doors, windows and fittings are to be unhinged, to match the profiles of the inmates. 😛
The first of the two “jokes” in First Cow went like this:
What side of a tree grows the most leaves? Answer: The outside!Grinberg’s next project: convert the engine of a Model T Ford into a Hybrid, and while we are on the topic of transportation and spheres, there is the Dynasphere, a modification for which could be implemented at funfairs to replace or augment dodgem cars. 😛

Back in the day, organ shops were ubiquitous as everybody had to have one. These days, the merchants can barely raise the capital to scrub out the old signs and replace them with the updated inventory. Wanna Hammond organ? Here’s a deal, we’ll throw in a few extra cobwebs for free!
The Sentinels sound formidable, are they anything like those from the X-Men?From Evil Dead to Meatballs – heck that’s some leap of genre, a mighty fine soundtrack as well. Love Moondust and of course the title track. On the list for an encore view!
And now, for a double leap of genre (or bovine over the moon), First Cow with the 4:3 aspect nicely includes a retro touch to the experience. As the film does not boast whizbangery in the sets or a quotable grab-bag of fortune cookies, expectations might be dampened, the impression here was … basic, expecting, and above all, unforgettable. The evocation of the humanity, cakes, and the circumstances will surely change the way we see cows. 🙂The Batman with ads consumed most of the evening. All the sounds of Gotham are imbued in the all pervading dark noise, thereby detracting a little from the impact of the fine score and dialogue. The purpose of the Riddler murders at the beginning seemed to get lost in other incongruities, his later revealed character turned out to be an interesting contrast. The characters and visuals/effects make this worth watching, despite the slightly amorphous plot. Recommended! 🙂
Interesting, that’s in Italian – are you conversant, or like me, dependent on subscripts.
Do recommend the first two Rush Hour flicks, superb choreography and LOL moments. 🙂
The Assignment is on FTA tonight:Dr. Rachel Jane is a rogue plastic surgeon with a twisted vision of a better world.
What we need is more folks with a better vision of a twisted world. 😛
Might ditch that for Copycat instead. 🙂[Post moved] hope that’s okay. 🙂
Very interesting thread! As noted in the last bit of the second answer to this question, a consideration is the fuse going if the MOV gets too hot for risk of fire.
Don’t think Zero Surge do units for Australian power outlets, found this for the aerial, something with more outlets would be nice. The Surge Interceptor up here is now a H/W relic, this old post mentions the listing at Wayback, no pictures captured for some reason.
The local Dick Smith electronics store automatically replaced old faulty ones with new, no charge, the labour required to analyse, order and replace components in the unit often exceeds the value of a new unit. The store closed around 2018, so now left with this unit, still functional with the outlets, but connections with the aerial now cause pixellation on the set, so slow burn happening somewhere. 😛How much is fuel? Bound to be plenty of oil on that tropical planet, any use for spaceships?
Remember Tobor the Great? Just in case it has slipped from memory, there’s a nice review here. 🙂Haven’t read King’s novel, did see the movie, and now, is it possible a tiny smidgeon of Christine has popped up in AI? 😛
Classic, and a must for the list is Evil Dead II. 🙂
The atmosphere of The Disappointments Room clicked, not for the critics though. A shortish flick, Kate’s histrionics towards the end were off the charts. 🙂
An improved reception it was for Blood_Quantum, in this case not here as zombie movie has to sport at least a few cracking one-liners to beat the yuck factor. -
