More than likely! No platform is perfect, after all. It would help if more of the bbPress bugs were tackled, though! That and more integration 😛

We have something similar called the BBB. The ratings don’t mean much as they just reflect how the business responds to customers but it does help give you a general idea of how doing business with the company will go 🙂

So gas giants in NMS aren’t exactly scientifically accurate. They have a surface! And lakes that you can fish in 😛

Or sucking the poor critters up into huge freezer trawlers? Certainly a possibility if we are far enough down into the atmosphere where liquids occur, and in a nicely positioned de-pressurized giant super-dome so that things aren’t completely squinched by the overpowering gravity. A construct something akin in magnitude though complete opposite in composition and behaviour to the Red Spot of Jupiter. 😛
Edit:, Hmmmm, might be possible for enough in air to be pumped into the atmosphere of the dome to increase its buoyancy – not sure.
Good news that WebCrawler is still alive, providing a snappy response to queries. Made a personal copy of the front page of Aliweb, the Web’s oldest search engine, because of the sheer age of the category items. The site is © 2009, however the search index was modified much earlier, not long after 9/11 probably, thus most of the links are either re-directs or down the gurgler. And – er – believe it or not, Cagles is still going strong. 🙂
The mystery of the original gaming zone before MS took over continues, posted here on it – could it be some of Sierra’s content might have been borrowed by certain parties?

We do have a fishing skiff but it’s currently half-baked. Hopefully they do some more work on it in the future 🙂

These are more like rocky planets with a gaseous atmosphere. They’re pretty weird. I guess you could say they’re more akin to Venus that Jupiter? Or a combination.

Cool! Remember browsing AliWeb’s list of links way back when. And looks like Dog Pile is still online! Sadly, it looks like a shadow of its former self. The top search terms include Black Friday which was way back in November 😛

Fun fact: Microsoft acquired the Sierra IP catalog when they purchased Activision a few years back so things have gone full circle 😛

The skiff looks nice for half-baked, the skiff’s scullion will be ensuring the fish will be fully baked. 🙂
🙂 Ah, the Wayback face of Microsoft (long loading):
        Bill Gates and Windoze
After setting up a Windows 3.11 VM, came across Basil’s WordPress website Blog. Posting a comment first got a nonce bounce, following posts never got through, so saving the comments here:

Thanks for posting this very well presented walkthrough.
Tony’s VMWare site now here, (file link working):
        http://web.archive.org/web/20200123030303/https://vmware0.tripod.com/
In my case, set up this in VirtualBox version 7.16 (recent):
        https://archive.org/details/CE55E93BC43C767067BD371EFB97259FE20BC97FB09055AF7BCFD3BA374B1824
Could never get the network going, the ipconfig on the VM was never anything like that on the host. Then this came up in Google, fantastic, will try sometime.
The March of Progress: VirtualBox now requires VT-x/AMD-V enabled in the BIOS/UEFI, despite it being disabled by default in the GUI.

Looks like he may have disabled new comments some years ago. Maybe he had a spam problem? He’s got some good information!

Have you looked into Hyper-V? Never used it before but it looks like it may be a good native option, even if it doesn’t have all the bells and whistles. Sadly, it only supports back to W7 from the official list.

I can’t remember if I used VMWare or Virtual Box when I was playing with VMs. Didn’t use it for much, just playing about 😛

Might be worth a shot, thanks. 🙂
And looking at The (Nearly) Whole Microsoft Catalog, it all kicked off with a cracker in ’81:

Seattle Computer Products Developer of 86Q-DOS operating system software, which became MS-DOS. Purchased software for $50,000, but later was sued and paid the company a nearly $1 million settlement. 1

Watcom is a good IDE candidate, tried the vintage 10a, they forgot to compile WRE to 32bit, and the installation dialog warns you might have an issue with fitting their application on the disk because there is only -xxxxxxxxxx bytes remaining on the disk. 10.5 is much better, the more recent Open Watcom is worth a try as well. 🙂

          #3573

Wiki’s got a pretty extensive list, too: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_mergers_and_acquisitions_by_Microsoft Lots of stuff in there!

Haven’t used Watcom before but I’ve definitely run across it. Can’t forget about Borland, either! It still lives as C++ Builder 🙂

          #3592

So I reinstalled OpenTTD the other day and it’s still just as relaxing as it was last time I gave it a whirl. Now, though, there are a lot more add-ons for better graphics in the online content menu. Haven’t tried those out yet.

That looks really nice, and there are versions for Linux\Mac as well! Very active forums, not so much on chooka chooka trains though. 🙁
Installed Ghidra, what an amazing project, as decompilers must have a bazillion things more than compilers for getting anything close to operational compiled code. A downside is their help system is rather antiquated, and there is no urgency to update it. 😛

            #3596

It’s wonderful! I’ve been playing it off and on on Linux and Windows for years 🙂

It also has a hidden sandbox mode that lets you remove most of the limitations. I forget the key combination, though.

It’s definitely taking time to relearn it and not go too fast at the beginning but I’m getting better. I don’t really care about the scoring, I just like building things up. Will need to look at the more advanced settings in case I can remove some of it. Once I get the hang of it again, I’ll be flipping it over to more realism by adjusting the map settings and other things. 🙂

It also has a lot of add-ons to give it a regional feel. By default, it is mostly inspired by the UK but you can do Australia, Japan, and more by using the right content packs 🙂

Cool! What are you using it for?

Using it – well – for an up and coming Odd Blog, more on that later. 🙂
Like the idea of the Tuneup_plus name for this project despite it being more about information gathering, login is also required to obtain a copy of Gather_additional_dump_files.

              #3608

              Ah, okay. Sounds good 🙂

Don’t forget about WinDbg! Pretty helpful to track down driver issues. And it’s also helpful to turn off the automatic restart on STOP errors so that you can better see what’s going on. Of course, Windows has become much more resilient in recent years so, fortunately, BSoDs don’t happen as much as they used to 🙂

And that led me to Detours, which led me to this cool list of projects and papers: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/research/search/?facet%5Btax%5D%5Bmsr-content-type%5D%5B%5D=msr-project&q=

Most of the recent stuff is AI-related but they’re playing with bringing TypeScript to embedded devices: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/research/project/devicescript/

It’s interesting. TypeScript is a lot more readable than JS but never really took off. Sort of like the D programming language, Go, and Dart.

After several bad starts, I think I’m getting the hang of OpenTTD again. Right now, I’ve got a basic network of four trains and two coal mines all connected to a power plant. Nothing fancy but it works. I’ve also got a few buses and a mail route between two towns.

Not sure how I want to expand it but I’ll do some more reading of the help files. 🙂

Also beginning to install more content. I’m going with a dirty look for the mines and pure concrete for the power plant. I may also install an AI that drives basic cars around to add eye candy but I’m a little concerned about congestion

In case the countless millions reading are wondering, here’s a teaser:

In other words, do yourselves a favour!
They got back on the DNSCache issue, apparently it’s now soldered into the circuits. 🙁
Reversing into this article may get the comprehension somewhat double parked, still very readable though. 🙂

Yep! Town sets are definitely something to download. The default town buildings and layouts leave a lot to be desired but there are a few that greatly improve things. The Total Town Replacement Set mostly swaps out the buildings for ones with greater variety while the UK Townset improves the layout and gives you pretty buildings.

Lot of good information in there! You could also take a look at BFD. I know MinGW has a Windows port of the binutils package, which may be useful for investigation as well. 🙂

Picked up Fallout 4 and Manor Lords the other day. Fallout 4 runs like a dream and Manor Lords is pretty good. Bit confusing at first but it’s still pretty early in development but definitely worth it!

Cloudflare are being a little more aggressive with the smaller browsers – Pale Moon, Blizzard, Opera, CF maintain it can be modified in the client site settings. Unfortunately many Webmasters are strapped for “time and resources” these days. Pity.
Thanks, no reason why minGW shouldn’t be installed here, just got to keep tabs on the sheer volume of general content before the file system and memory start to get a bit janky. 😛
Having a look at X64dbg, terrific but documentation could do with a boost. Thing to do might be to pop a coin in the slot accompanied by a polite clearing of the throat. 🙂
Cool, well then an opportunity to try UpperLowerProper for a blast on Linux?
Edit: Finally succumbed to MS 2FA on the account due to frets from MS, did not happen without a little pain. Weird thing too, signing out of the MS account now only works per tab – are they giving up on the vagaries of Chrome’s caching soo soon? 😛
Edit: Great pdf tomes of programming here, after looking through that list, feel very unread. 😛

                  #3876

Yeah, a lot of open source projects have poor documentation. A lot of stuff needs to figured out with trial and error. It’s a shame but we don’t usually write good docs and it’s hard to get volunteers to fill in the blanks. 🙁

Ooh, that repository looks nice. Will need to explore it when I have time. 🙂
Do wish some of the files had better titles. The CMake one is just random characters 😛

Out of interest, you can also grab the C++ standards in PDF format. cppreference also has offline copies with support for integrated help systems for the occasions that one doesn’t have good network capabilities. Wiki has similar! 🙂

Turns out the Mastering CMake files there are just TOC, and Martin/Hoffman’s version have non-functioning links. Better to just get it from CMake. 😛
No corrigenda since 2003? They have indeed upped the standards! And news group comp.std.c++ dead?
Interesting link on file system limits, thanks. Because the IA has well over 200 pb of data, the operation of extracting their offline info becomes … interesting even on a machine with ReFS. 😛
IA retains some old AL links, the actual files for Miscellaneous and Downloads are missing, do remember attempting to edit the AHK version of HTML Sundry Tips … and getting a Cloudflare bounce when posting. Worked today, but the intended updates back then have quite slipped the mind. 😛
Also came across the Previous Morrowind Patches, are those still current?

                    #3886

Google disabled new posts last year, which is a shame but I guess they were tired of hosting forums. I should catch up on C++20 and C++23 at some point. There have been quite a few changes. That said, I don’t like the new import feature as it makes it harder to tell where stuff is coming from. Do like the looks of the new std::println() function, though. Much cleaner than std::cout << “Stuff” << std::endl

Yep, most archives use a form of *nix for their setup as Windows has lower limitations and is much slower when accessing larger data blocks. No experience with ReFS but it looks like a good option for Windows over NTFS. From the looks of it, it’s still very much a work in progress.

Presumably, AndalayBay has a backup of at least some of the files as she’s reuploaded some but I don’t know how much she kept.

Those have been superseded by the UMP. The UMP team went through all of those and cherrypicked the changes that were appropriate and discarded the rest. 🙂 It’s possible there have been other community efforts since Jac passed but I haven’t heard of any.

And make sure you grab OpenMW! Still need to get it installed over here at some point but they fix a lot of engine bugs in addition to recreating things so the Morrowind Code Patch is now obsolete.

Ah gotcha, it’s here, and yes, OpenMW is on the list! 🙂
Have you seen this one for Usenet, more than a billion posts in there apparently.
And there are almost 15 billion videos on YouTube, – no walk in the park for your average video archivist. 😛
